b'Nelson Moves to the Milwaukee ZooWritten by and PC: Holly Smith Nelson came to live with me October 22, 2011. I was searchingtheinternetforahorsetrailersincewehad recently moved into our farm and acquired 2 horses. Well up popped a sale ad for a Fjord looking for a new barn. Ive always had a passion for Fjords so off I went to see this fellow. It was Nelson and we seemed to have an immediate connection, so home I came with this lovely guy. Nelson moved to Nebraska for a few months, but couldnt tolerate the bugs and returned to me.The Milwaukee County Zoo recently lost the horse that lived at the Family Farm for many years.Lisa Guglielmi, who works at the zoo and heads up this area, began looking for a horse to purchase. She was hoping to find a Fjord for the Family Farm as she loves the breed. We became acquaintedthroughafriend;shecametovisitNelson and fell in love with him as I had 12 years ago. In checking their vet references, I found that The Milwaukee County Zoo uses the same vet as I do. The vet spoke very highly of the zoo and the care they give to their animals which gave me an additional layer of comfort that he would be well cared for. I offered to donate rather than sell Nelson to them with the condition that if it doesnt work out, he would return to me.Three weeks after Nelson moved to the zoo, I drove out to see how he was settling in and found he is very happy and very much loved by all. The vet techs and farrier say he is such a gentleman. He also seems to have a fan club as everyone that works for the zoo knows and loves him.
